The ASICS Gel-Kayano 20 Doublet Cardboard is the result of a collaboration between ASICS and Japanese label Doublet, built around a concept as radical as it is precise: reproducing the appearance of a cardboard box on a running shoe. The Gel-Kayano 20, launched in 2013, was originally designed for structured cushioning on long-distance running, and Doublet radically subverts its aesthetic here.
The upper faithfully reproduces the textures, beige tones and printed details characteristic of corrugated cardboard. Graphic elements evoke shipping labels and packaging markings, transforming the running silhouette into a conceptual object in its own right. The result is a shoe that blurs the boundaries between footwear and packaging.
This collaboration sits within the tradition of Japanese conceptual projects, where the subversion of everyday objects becomes a strong and coherent aesthetic statement.
